Sometimes, the path to success takes unexpected turns. For Jessica Ullio, a passion for writing led her to a career in healthcare that she never anticipated. Now a Provider Enrollment Manager at Advantum Health, Jessica shares how she found purpose and fulfillment in an entirely new field.

A Surprising Start

Jessica’s journey began with a twist of fate. After being laid off from her job as a marketing copywriter, she took a temporary position at her father’s company to make ends meet. What was supposed to be a short-term gig turned into a thriving 12-year career.

“I never expected to love this field,” Jessica admits. “I was the kid writing short stories for fun and cheering for writing assignments in school. Healthcare wasn’t even on my radar, but here I am, making a difference every single day.”

A Foundation in Writing

Jessica’s love for writing began during her time at Rollins College, a private liberal arts school in Winter Park, Florida. She majored in English, Mass Communication, Journalism, Creative Writing, and Marketing—essentially, all things storytelling.

Her passion translated into early career successes, from working at a writing center to being published in lifestyle magazines and newspapers. She even dabbled in TV news before becoming a marketing copywriter. “If it involved words, I wanted to be a part of it,” Jessica says.

Finding Purpose in Healthcare

While Jessica’s roots are in writing, she’s found an unexpected joy in her role as Provider Enrollment Manager.

“My absolute favorite part of my position is making a difference,” Jessica explains. “Doctors are often seen as superhuman, and in many ways, they are. But what I do every day helps them in their lives and livelihoods. It’s a powerful feeling.”

She also values the camaraderie she shares with her colleagues. “They make the work so fun!”

 Challenges in Healthcare

The healthcare industry is undergoing a transformation with the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), and Advantum Health is at the forefront of leveraging this technology to improve processes and outcomes. Rather than seeing AI as a threat, the company views it as an opportunity to enhance efficiency and innovation.

“There’s a tremendous opportunity for AI in healthcare,” Jessica explains. “At Advantum, we’re focused on integrating AI to support and streamline operations, allowing our teams to focus on what they do best—delivering personalized, human-centered solutions. The personal touch is something machines can complement but never replicate.”

The Role of Company Culture

Jessica attributes much of her success to the supportive culture at Advantum Health.

“No one had to believe in the former boss’s daughter,” Jessica reflects. “But Advantum not only believed in me, but they also invested in me. For 12 years, they’ve supported and developed me without judgment. It’s a family culture, and I’ll always be grateful for that.”

Life Beyond Work

When Jessica isn’t busy making a difference in healthcare, you’ll most likely find her at Walt Disney World. Her love for creativity and imagination shines in every aspect of her life, from her work to her leisure.

A Journey of Growth and Gratitude

Jessica Ullio’s story is a testament to the power of adaptability, hard work, and a little serendipity. She proves that even the most unexpected career paths can lead to fulfillment and success.

For Jessica, healthcare is more than a job—it’s a way to make a meaningful impact. And with her leadership and determination, she’s inspiring others to embrace opportunities they never imagined.
